Live & Run on the Bleeding Edge

It is 52 years since the Great Resolution created one unified worldwide society on Klaros. Half a century since Man drew a breath and took a great leap forward, riding the best of his new technology into a bright future...

...But not everybody took the plunge. The Punks live on the margins, willing to live hand to mouth because they refuse to be a face in the crowd. Welcome to the Edge, where you have the freedom to live your dreams - or die trying. Cybernetic tech and new bio-integrated "wet-ware" can make you a superman, give you the key to achieve everything you want in life. And if you're fast and lucky and just a bit dangerous, you could live long enough to get there. Welcome to a world where your wits are your life, where modern-day Merlins build gleaming steel monsters and hatch chrome dragons from plastic shells, and digital wizardry is all but indistinguishable from magic. Whether you're a Hacker/Wizard, a Maker/Alchemist, a Brawler/Fighter, or a Runner/Thief, you'll spend your days living on the edge, walking the dangerous path in order to finally realize your life's dream - your Magnum Opus.

What's an Open-World RPG?
The role-playing setting of "Magnum Opus" is designed to be an open world (actually 3 major settings, with the other 2 being available as your characters progress). To a great extent, players can have their characters wander wherever their (limited) resources can take them. There are world-spanning story lines that are constantly moving, constantly affecting what your characters experience. Being in certain locations at certain times will make certain story lines available, and the players may choose to participate in these, or not, never quite knowing how their current mission fits into the macro-stories playing out across all 3 locations. The world still turns, and life will go on without them - but they can choose to change the world. They can choose whether to toil in obscurity, or take part in world-changing events. It's up to you to explore.

Dice

Magnum Opus uses a number of six-sided dice to resolve actions, through "success rolls." You (or the GM) roll 3 six-sided dice, and if this is less than some pre-determined number, you succeed! Granted, there will be lots of of modifications - but those are discussed later on. (See the "GURPS Lite" document link in this forum - that's all the rules.)

Character Sheet

Your Character Sheet tracks important information about the character you're playing, from things like name and class, to your skills, attributes, and equipment, to your current health level. The next section walks you through the character sheet - and coincidentally, will show you how to develop a Magnum Opus character!
